When things get in the way of wedding planning …

I haven’t abandoned this blog, despite my lack of posts recently! It’s just that sometimes wedding planning goes through a lull period, and we are in one right now. And I’ve become busy doing other things … like opening an Etsy shop. Because, ya know, planning a wedding and working full-time and running or contributing to four websites and just living life isn’t hectic enough!

One of the centerpieces listed on The Sunday Flower Etsy shop

So, I’ve mentioned a couple times on this blog that we are making paper flowers to use for decoration at our reception. (And I do mean “we”: Mr. Rosie has made just as many, if not more, flowers than I have for the wedding.) The flowers are really lovely, and there are so many uses for them that I decided to make a bunch of different arrangements and bouquets and sell them on Etsy. My shop is called The Sunday Flower, and I’m hoping people will be interested in using these paper flower for their own weddings. The best part about them is how completely customizable they are. And they can be used for centerpieces (like we’re doing), bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, decoration, place card holders, cupcake toppers, and really anything you can think of. Plus they will last a long time, giving you great keepsakes from the wedding, and they’re perfect for anyone who has allergies! Of course, they can be used in any setting — I have vases of them all over our house, and they’re really perfect for home decor. They look great on an office desk, too. I’d love if anyone would check out the site, give me feedback on it, and if you like what you see, spread the word!

Etsy find: The Isabella Wedding Gown – Convertible Dress

This dress comes from the Etsy shop Erin Nicole Boutique, and I just love it. This is one of the few dresses I’ve come across that could serve as a wedding dress and actually be worn again in a non-wedding setting. Because it’s a convertible dress, it can be styled in all kinds of ways (and even comes with a PDF file of instructions of how to style it!), letting you find the most flattering/comfortable style for you. (Click through to see more photos of how this dress can be worn.) And personally, I love the look of the taupe fabric with the lace. It’s a classic look and would suit a lot of brides and different styles of weddings, if you ask me. The price might be out of reach for some brides, at $349.99, but that’s a fairly inexpensive wedding dress compared to most others. Also, there is a good chance it wouldn’t require many alterations, if any, since it sounds like it’s made using your measurements, so that would save money in the alterations department.

Etsy find: Handmade bridal shrugs

I’m getting married in warm weather (I assume!), which is too bad because I kind of wish I had an excuse to buy one of these gorgeous shrugs from Etsy shop ReflectionsByds. Everything in the shop is beautiful, and for sure these shrugs could be worn outside of a wedding setting, but if you’re a bride getting married in cooler weather, how great would one of these be??! Here are a few of my favorites:

Alternatives to flowers, and there are many!

Being a budget bride can be hard. One bright spot about it, for me, is that it’s actually led to me being more creative when it comes to figuring out invitations, decorations, attire, etc., for our wedding. We’ve been thinking about what kind of decorations we want, and quickly realized that money is going to fly out the window when it comes time to put centerpieces on 20 (possibly more) tables. Let’s say we keep it to $10 total/table for all centerpieces: that will be at least $200, and doesn’t include all the other decorations we want.

All of this is to say, real flowers are just not going to fit in our budget. Or at least not many of them. Silk flowers can also be pricey, as it turns out. (The upside to those is they last you for a long, long time.) Flowers probably weren’t going to be a big part of our centerpieces anyway, so that’s fine there. But I would like to have some sort of bouquet, and corsages and boutonnieres, possibly some vase-type structures scattered here and there.

And I have found so many great alternatives to flowers, especially when it comes to bouquets:

Handmade ceramic bouquet ($32), from the Etsy shop orlydesign:

Vintage brooch bouquet ($200), from Etsy shop WeddingLust:

Feather And Organza Wedding Bouquet ($140), from Etsy shop Ardesign:

Pink and Turquoise 3-D Flower Bridal Bouquet ($65), from Etsy shop reallybadkitty:

Peony Feather Bridal Bouquet ($225), from Etsy shop jujubee455:

Button bouquet ($135), from Etsy shop JILLIANNS:

Felt button bouquet ($45), from Etsy shop MissJenniferRae:

12 paper roses (these are made from maps) ($75), from Etsy shop RagnazIdnar:

And these are really just a few examples. If you or any of your friends are crafty, some of these would definitely be DIY-able.

Any other alternatives out there you’ve seen?

Our (second) cake topper is the cutest!

So, we bought the beautiful Day of the Dead cake topper from Etsy, and I believe that will be our main cake topper. But with our desserts, we are going to have spaces for more than one cake topper, so I had to buy these love birds too, from the Etsy shop CountrySquirrelsRUs:

turquoise love birds

At $49, these were about twice the cost of our other cake topper, but I love them to bits and they are made in our wedding colors, too. (For what it’s worth, I consider this one of our “splurges,” because we could do without it.) I also think these birds will be very easy to display after the wedding, and I took that into consideration when buying them.

I’m excited to see both our cake toppers; they should be arriving in the mail in the next week or two!

Etsy: Day of the Dead cake topper

Etsy can be a fantastic resource for couples planning a wedding. Soooo many wedding items are available on the site, from invitations to veils to boutineers to wedding rings to, really, anything a wedding might feature. And a lot of sellers are able to customize their items to suit your wedding, which is great.

I’ve been browsing Etsy a lot, and intend to share some of my favorite things I come across on the site. First up is this gorgeous and too cute cake topper of a bride and groom in a Day of the Dead style:

This topper is from the Etsy shop dnacreations; here is the direct link to the topper: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62786326/day-of-the-dead-wedding-cake-topper?ref=cat2_gallery_11. And perhaps the best part? It’s a complete bargain at $24! They have a couple other cake toppers, too, that you can check out.

ETA: Soooo … I just bought this to be one of our cake toppers. (We’ll be having multiple places for cake toppers; more on that later). I’ve been thinking about this topper since I made this post, I showed it to Mr. Rosie, he loved it, so we bought it. Yay! And I bought another one, which I’ll post soon. It’s adorable.)
